Embarking on an Entrepreneurial Odyssey

From flipping burgers in college to leading digital transformations at global giants, I have had a great career working towards the dreams of others.

Enough was enough!

I'm your typical tech entrepreneur; a relentless problem solver with a sliver of tech-savviness.

I am now busy building my third venture - jalebi.io - and my journey has been nothing short of a roller coaster.

Join me for a ride through a world where challenges are stepping stones, and setbacks are setups for epic comebacks!

1980

Born in Jan in Pakistan, to two incredible individuals: an ex-Airforce pilot dad and an ex-Air Crew mom!

1980 - 1990

2000 - 2004

Childhood was a blend of education and adventure. I tasted both the US and UK educational systems.
The new millennium marked the beginning of my college life in the United States, setting the stage for the entrepreneur I'd become, just ask John Haverty.

2004

2005 - 2006

Following a short run with Flat Iron, New York, I returned to Pakistan, ready to become a son of the soil.

2005 - 2008

Started by “coordinating” a $200M telecom project, followed by a jaunt with an NGO, where helped rebuild homes and lives, laying the foundation for a career in tech and impact

2006 - 2008

I broke startup ground with foona, Pakistan’s MENAP’s first restaurant review and discovery guide, solving a problem that no one understood, as I would learn. Until Zomato.

2014

Joined Acumen and built Micro Drip, an agritech startup that became my first run at a venture-backed “startup”, while avoiding scorpions in the desert.

2008

Attended Web Summit in Dublin to exhibit foona but mainly to figure out what this founder hullabaloo was all about. I also had a drink with Bono.

2015

Laughable affair with a fintech venture that didn't go far but taught me how not to be a founder, as I inked a major deal with the world’s largest telco.

2008 - 2011

Deciding I needed money that wasn’t from a salary, and not knowing how to approach investors, I conceived Digital Street which my wife ran, to bankroll foona. Go figure.

2016 - 2018

Eating humble pie, I tuck-tailed back into corporate as a glorified EA to a telco CEO, while climbing the proverbial ladder, going on to pioneer many firsts.

2012

We ended up with an award-winning digital agency, serving 150+ brands in 10+ markets. We did some wild stuff, like this book, which still jerks a tear.
Got picked up by a Telco in the Middle East, where I organized tables on PPT slides for teams studying disruptive technology that would later define consumer lives, or so we hoped.

2013 - 2018

Finally, I was reeled in by the purveyor of commonwealth and cricket to do something with digital transformation for South Asia, but living la vida buena in Dubai

2018

Corporate and Entrepreneurship finally collided, with one clear winner and a scenario of building 2 startups at once. Didn’t go well.

2019

2020

Following 13 years of “just us”, I embarked on the incredible journey of fatherhood with my son, Deen, and my talented co-founder wife, Sophiya.
End of an era // birth of another. Met Rizwan and co-founded jalebi, laying foona to permanent rest (thanks, COVID!)

2021

2022

Somehow got backed by Techstars, the world’s most active early-stage investor. I also stepped down from digital.st
Raised money for jalebi.io, crystallized our vision, and built a team in 9 countries. We were off to the races.

2023

2024

Survived a tough year, led an army of committed soldiers, while securing venture funds and customer revenue, with a bunch of really cool awards to boot.
Harvard said 44 is when entrepreneurs finally meet success. I’m still waiting. Meanwhile, loving my life building jalebi, and raising Deen, while riding a bike, and a scooter too.
